The number of infected people is on the rise in Germany
Wednesdays official data shows that the vaccination campaign is slowing down in Germany, also, it seems that on the daily more and more people are getting infected by the new variant of covid (SARS-CoV-2).
The Robert Koch Institute stated that 985 new people have been registered with the virus in the last 24 hours. This makes the percentage of infected 21,9% higher as compared to last weeks number of 808.
In the past seven days, the daily average of infected people has increased a quarter of what was registered last week.
The current most efficient way of keeping track of the epidemiological situation is measuring the frequency of infection in seven days among one hundred thousand people. This amount rose from the earlier 4,9 of Tuesday to 5,1.
The extenuation of the epidemic which started in May is starting to show signs of coming to an end with the appearance of the virus’s delta variation. Calculations by RKI show that almost every second infection is caused by the new variant of covid and that sooner or later it will take less infectious virus variations’ place.
The institute claims that because of the delta variations rapid spread, a minimum of 85 percent of individuals aged between 12 and 59 as well as 90 percent of people aged 60 and above should be inoculated so as to prevent triggering a new epidemic wave of the virus.
Despite this, however, the vaccination campaign has slowed in the past few days. On Wednesday, the Federal Governments stated that in the last seven days a daily average of 688 781 inoculation was observed. This number was above 800 thousand in the middle of June.
According to Jens Spahn, federal minister of health, in the 60 and above age group the vaccination is going well and the desired 90% is expected to be achieved shortly. Between 12- and 59-years old people, on the other hand, improvements are due to be made so the vaccine can be more available in order to reach the aforementioned 85%.
More opportunities need to be created. For example, vaccination points could be put next to sports fields or markets, churches and mosques – said Deutschlandfunk minister on National Public-Service Radio.
With the new registered infected included, the SARS-CoV-2 has been detected in 3 732 549 inhabitants in Germany. 48 people passed away due to Covid-19 in the last day, which pushes the number of victims up to 91 110.
About the populations 56,8 percent – 47 213 139 people – has been inoculated with at least one dose of the vaccine. The percentage of fully vaccinated people stands at 39,3% – 32 696 003 people –at present.
